‘$20.9m investment over 3 years’
THE Lau Provincial Council says Government has invested more than $20.9 million in infrastructure development and services in the islands over the past three years.
This, according to provincial administrator Iakobo Waqanidrola.
He made the comment during the council meeting at the Studio 6 Apartments in Suva on Wednesday.
In his presentation, he listed down all government services along with the allocations used for the past three years.
Mr Waqanidrola said the Fiji Roads Authority used $7,632,545, the health sector $223,208, education $3,010,485, energy $4,487,662, Water Authority of Fiji $1,422,515, agriculture $1,069,003, fisheries $1,762,000 and social welfare $289,033.
He said in the rural development they recorded a total of $320,744, IHRDP (Integrated Human Resource Development Programme) $230,647, police $295,317, forestry $96,150.50 and MoIT $151,000.
Mr Waqanidrola said there were other government agencies that were yet to present their financials. He said the Lau Provincial Council administrator’s office had used $320,744 to administer three programs done for the province.
“This includes the making of footpaths in villages et cetera,” Mr Waqanidrola said.
He said there were plans in place for 2020-2021 projects whereby the bridge in Yaroi Village, Moala would be fixed and the design of a new bridge at Lomaloma Village.
Mr Waqanidrola said for the 2020-2021 financial year there would be no rural road upgrades or construction.
