Council workers

-

MY sincere appreciation goes to the humble Labasa Town Council workers who braved all odds to try their best to put Subrail Park back to shape during Fiji FACT.

While they were sponging water out of the swampy puddle, people might have laughed at their action, but we must realise that they were just doing what they were told to do.

While players, officials and spectators had good night’s sleep, these workers sacrificed the comfort of their home and warmth of their families to resurface the soggy turf with sand and their sweat during night.

These council workers need standing ovation for their tremendous efforts. The big question, however, is: what role does the respective town council or the organisers play in ensuring that such scenarios do not happen?

I remember seeing the same scene back in ’90s when Labasa eventually won the IDC against Nadroga at a muddy Subrail Park.
