THE Savusavu football side finished its 2020 season on a high after winning the inaugural Fiji FA Presidents Cup that concluded at Bocalevu Muslim Primary School ground in Labasa on Sunday.

The boys from Fiji’s Hidden Paradise defeated Nadogo FC 5-4 in the final which was decided through the dreaded penalty kicks after both teams were locked with a goal each at fulltime.

Savusavu Football Association president Tony Kabakoro commended his boys for finishing the season on a winning note.

He said it was the fighting spirit within the team that led them to victory.

“I feel proud of the boys especially for not being able to qualify for the IDC so we thought we finish the season with a win,” Kabakoro said.

“Unfortunately it had to be decided by the penalty kicks but I am very happy that we came out victors.

“In most of our games, we came back from a goal down and that simply shows the fighting spirit within the boys.”

When asked about the team not qualifying for the Courts Inter District Championship this year, Kabakoro said this becomes a wake-up call for them to do the hard yards and come back prepared next season.

“This is a wake-up call for next season and we know we will come strong,” he said.

“We will lacking in some areas and we will go back and evaluate what all went wrong so that we come prepared next year.”

Savusavu walked away $2500 richer with the Presidents Cup and winners’ medals while Nadogo settled for $750 with runnerup trophy and medals.
