The Fiji Times

Refuge in suitcases

-

WITH a heavy heart, I read the story in yesterday’s The Fiji Times about how children were packed into suitcases and tucked away under beds as storms smashed into Yaro Village, Kia on Thursday last week. Fijians on Kia Island described the ordeal as terrifying — ‘a night of terror’. They also fought hypothermia from being exposed to the cold and wet for hours. Isa, stories like this and many other heartbreaking stories were captured by our reliable brand — The Fiji Times. As years go by, I’m sure readers will spend hours at The Fiji Times library reading these stories and recapturing those bitter moments that severe tropical cyclones like Yasa and Winston gave us. That’s the power of print media — it captures the good and bad!
