Daylight saving

-

IT seems many people do not understand the purpose of daylight savings. There will always be negative people in the world. Daylight saving let me remind you all began when Benjamin Franklin wrote a tonguein-cheek letter to Parisians to move their clocks one hour forward, to save money on lamp oil and candles.

This is the reason countries like Fiji who get longer sunlight or have longer days in the summer will move the time one hour ahead. This is done to save energy. On normal days you turn on the lights of your homes at 6pm at peak times but now some people turn on the lights by 7:30pm. You save few dollars on your bills.

People in the rural have more time to tie their cows, move goats to their shelter, return home in sunlight. Those living in urban do not understand this. Daylight saving has nothing to do with your sleeping time. You can go to bed at 9pm and wake up by 5am or even 4am.

More daylight means parents have more time to wash clothes even at night after 6pm, feeding of animals and enjoying tea with family in the sunset at 7pm. The problem in Fiji is people have less thinking power. Only in Fiji people tend to jump to conclusions without knowing the fact. A mine worker, farmer, fisherman, cashier, fuel pump attendant and those finishing work at 6pm or so will reach their homes on time and in broad daylight.

I personally love daylight saving because I get time to play with my dogs and have my shower afterwards even if it is 8pm. I believe those mostly complaining about this are grog lovers, because they can’t sit and drink grog after 11pm and sun sets at around 8pm. Meaning they just get two or three hours to finish drinking grog. Spend time with family, grog lovers, kava causes gastritis and can lead to heart attack. Enjoy the daylight saving.
