SIX days after super storm Yasa carved a path of destruction through parts of the Northern Division, families are trying to rebuild their lives.
Many in Bua, Macuata, Taveuni, Lau and surrounding islands do not have the financial means to rebuild their homes because of job losses or downturn in income caused by COVID-19.
Parents are contemplating the future of their schoolchildren, most of who have lost stationery, uniforms and sandals when storm surges whipped up by STC Yasa swept through their villages.
There are also concerns about the psychological impacts of STC Yasa on communities who have not fully recovered from STC Winston four years ago.
While many lessons learnt from STC Winston may have contributed to the reduction in loss of life and injury, the aftermath of STC Yasa has many concerned about what the future may hold.
