Father of four at a loss

- By VILIAME RAVAI

WHEN the Suva City Council told him to take down his stall outside MH Super Fresh on Mead Rd, Tamavua, Eparama Tawayaga’s heart sank.

Selling bu (green coconuts) at the roadside stall was the only means the Wailoku resident had of providing for his wife and four children.

With less than two weeks from the start of the 2021 school year, Mr Tawayaga said he was at a loss as to how he would meet his children’s stationery needs.

“After I was told by the Suva City Council to find another place to sell my bu, the first thing that came to my mind was my family because I feed my wife and kids from the money I earn from selling bu,” he said.

Mr Tawayaga said he had developed a good customer base over the years.

“Now I have to start all over again and move from place to place because the SCC are monitoring our movements.

“I have been trying to sell bu this week to buy school books for my Year 3 and Year 2 children and also pay my water and electricity bills.

“I have finally managed to find a spot to sell bu along Princes Rd, Tamavua, and hope the SCC will understand the struggle I am going through and leave me in peace.

“They need to understand I have to feed my family every day and allow me to continue with my business.”
