Relief cargo arrives

- By WANSHIKA KUMAR

THE Tahiti Nui docked in Suva yesterday with reconstruction and emergency materials from French Polynesia for victims of super storm Yasa.

The vessel brought a cargo of emergency equipment and building materials.

“On December 28, a large number of tarpaulins, chainsaws, water tanks, power generators, wood and metal sheets, which will be particularly useful for reconstruction, were loaded on to the vessel, as well as numerous pharmaceutical products and four containers of around 220,000 items of clothing were loaded,” a statement from French Polynesia read.

The relief supplies were collected after students of the University of French Polynesia and the Red Cross of French Polynesia launched a public relief drive for clothing at the Presidency, Aorai Tini Hau site in Pirae and several town halls of Tahiti from December 23 to December 27.
