FPRA organises Yasa appeal concert

- By ATELAITE RACIVA

THE Fiji Performing Rights Association (FPRA) has put together an appeal concert line up for January 9 at Ratu Sukuna Park in a bid to raise funds for Fijians who have suffered in the wake of severe tropical storm Yasa.

Director and events coordinator Seru Serevi said the initiative started with six local bands that quickly grew to a line up of 18.

“We’ve been overwhelmed with the number of bands who want to help in this appeal concert,” said Serevi.

“FPRA holds concerts of this kind as part of our CSR, our corporate social responsibility, and most of our members have wanted to raise funds but all they needed was a platform and that’s why we put together concerts like this after disasters to give them a stage to perform on and be able to raise funds. Like in previous concerts, volunteers will be wearing marked T-shirts and moving around with sealed buckets for people who are willing to make donations.

“Representatives from Westpac will be there to update us every hour on the amount collected and we’re hoping to gather the bold target of $20,000.

“Paula Basoga of Profile Productions has generously given us his equipment for the concert as he too is from Bua and is keen to assist us in this initiative.

“We encourage Fijians to come down in numbers, spread their mats out, have lunch and enjoy the entertainment.

“Share a bowl of kava that will be sold at the park by ‘'Kava Korp, juice will be sold by the Duavata Gospel Youth. All proceeds will go to assisting victims of STC Yasa.”

Serevi said they were also open to receiving contributions of clothes, shoes, utensils and beddings.

The concert will start at 11am and end at 7pm and aired live on television from 3 to 5pm.
