Repair works disrupt supply, says authority

- By ATELAITE RACIVA

PEOPLE living in Baulevu and Raralevu, Nausori, experienced low water pressure to no water last weekend because of critical repair works at the Raralevu reservoir.

The Water Authority of Fiji said affected areas included Baulevu Rd, Kasavu, Lakena, Vunivivi, Raralevu, Namata, Naila, Mokani, Cautata, Vatoa and Waicoka.

WAF carried out urgent repairs to a defective 450mm valve for Verata, Wailevu and Maumi which had been causing water disruptions for several days along the Nausori corridor before the New Year’s weekend.

WAF said by isolating the defective infrastructure and undertaking repairs, it was able to restore water supply to affected areas.

“The defective valve was one of the reasons water supply had been disrupted for Cautata, Ovea, Lakena and Vatoa,” WAF said.

WAF said to ensure people had access to clean and safe drinking water during the disruption, six water carting trucks were deployed across the affected areas – two in the Sakoca elevated areas, two in Cautata, Vatoa and Ovea, and two in Lakena.

Supply was progressively restored to affected areas by 5pm on Sunday.

WAF urged customers to conserve and always store sufficient water to last them for at least two to three days in their homes at all times.
