NFP on accessing funds

- By ARIETA VAKASUKAWAQA

THE Fiji National Provident Fund must ensure there are no restrictions imposed on members accessing their funds for assistance to rebuild their lives after being hit by STC Yasa, says National Federation Party vice-president Parmod Chand.

He said a couple had requested that their concerns be raised after they were refused the assistance because they did not own the home they lived in.

“This is totally wrong,” he said.

“The owner was the man’s father, despite both he and his wife living in the same home since getting married. Obviously, the owner, being an elderly man, has never been a member of FNPF.

“The couple wanted to start repairing the house instead of waiting for government assistance because they live there. “They are not tenants.” He said FNPF had announced assistance for STC Yasa for members in the affected areas on December 22.
