Bu seller given the run-around

- By VILIAME RAVAI

AFTER 23 years of selling bu (green coconuts) at the site, Kolinio Lete claimed the Suva City Council took down his stall outside MH Super Fresh, Tamavua.

“The council chased me away from here (Super Fresh) and said I had to go down to a bowser in Nabua to sell my bu,” the 47-year-old father told this newspaper.

When he got to the bowser, attendants told him to move away from there and to “get a job”.

“It is hard to find a job during this time and all my life I have been selling coconuts.

“I got a daughter at home who will be in Year 9 this year and I have a family to feed.

“I was lucky that the owner of Tiko Kece taxis in Nabua allowed me to sell bu at his base.

“Even though the owner of the taxi base gave me permission, the SCC came and told me not to sell my bu there.”

Mr Lete said all the money earned this week would be used to get his daughter ready for school on January 19.

“That is why I brave the heat of the sun or if I get wet from the rain, I do it all for my daughter.”
