10 years in business
LAND surveying and engineering consultants marked a decade of their existence in the industry late last year with the launch of another company — Himayat Engineers Pte Ltd — to commemorate the occasion.
Landmark Surveying and Engineering Consultants director Himayat Ali said he started the company with two staff members and as the company grew their staff numbers increased to about 20.
Mr Ali said they believed in maintaining high professional standards which also added to their popularity among clients.
“From two staff to now 20 the Landmark staff are able to support clients in every aspect of the planning and engineering process advising and giving them instant access to the vast experience in support of the project goals in a professional, efficient and timely manner at a fair-market value to clients which are city councils, engineers, architects, developers, public entities, schools and universities, commercial businesses, lenders, non-profit organisations and individuals in all parts of the country.
“The company has adapted themselves rapidly to the latest technologies to stay valuable in the field of surveying towards the social and economic development of our country.
“We are constantly training our staff to keep them updated with the new technology and new machines that is introduced in the industry,” he said.
“We carry out monthly refresher training with the staff and they are also well recognised and were rewarded for their service to the industry and the company at our anniversary celebrations.”
According to Mr Ali about 10 years ago and back, they were using the normal survey equipment with tapes to measure the sites but now they have invested in equipment and software that allows the surveyors to get their numbers from the software they use.
He said there was need for more licensed and registered surveyors in the industry and on the same note raised his concern at the number of cases dealing with bogus surveyors.
“When I say bogus I mean technicians who put themselves out there as surveyors and this leads to delays in projects and unsatisfactory services being provided.”
Mr Ali said it was important for registered surveyors to be posted fulltime on some of the specific government departments such as Lands Department, TLTB, town and country planning and housing authority to avoid delays on approvals and carry expert decision-making in respect to government policies and subdivision regulations.
According to Mr Ali including registered surveyors in decision-making departments was the way forward to improve surveying services to the public.
Mr Ali launched Landmark Surveying and Engineering Consultants in 2010, in Suva after accomplishing his postgraduate from Surveying and Engineering Board of California.
He served in Survey Registration Board and is the former general secretary of the National Squatter Council.
