Success fuels golf start

- ■ LAUTOKA GOLF CLUB

THE successful completion of the 2020 Lautoka Golf Club season has prompted the club to start its summer cup competition today as the scheduled Ba Open golf championship for the weekend has once again been deferred to February 6 and 7.

Passionate LGC member and VKM dental practitioner, Dr Vimal Murthi has pitched in to sponsor two consecutive two men 18 holes stroke Ambrose events.

Club executive Raymond Singh commended Dr Murthi for his generous sponsorship which would greatly benefit the members and a host of new golfers wanting to join LGC for 2021 season.

“Dr Vimal Murthi is a very unique left-handed golfer following in his dad, Yelaiya Murthi’s footsteps, who was the B-grade club champion in 1983. Lefthanded golfers are a very rare commodity in both the amateurs and professional divisions around the world,” Singh said.

Dr Murthi aims to make an impact this year to continue the family legacy in the club.

“I came close to putting my name on the honours’ board alongside my dad’s, but just missed out by a single shot. Hopefully 2021 is on the cards to improve further,” Dr Murthi said.

“I have contributed immensely for my club before and will continue to see LGC progress in leaps and bounds into the future.”

Over 40 keen and excited golfers are geared up to compete for top prizes at the golf links. The beginners will also be rewarded on the day.

The Ambrose event is also open to other Golf Fiji affiliated club members to compete for the main prizes. Those interested could contact Dr Vimal Murthi on 9789235, Jeffery John on 8951021 or Gaffar Ali 9789235.
