TWENTY three passionate footballers have been accredited with Fiji FA grassroots football development coaching after successfully completing the three-day course in Rakiraki last weekend.

Fiji FA acting technical director and head of education, Yogendra Dutt said this was the firstever grassroots coaching course in Rakiraki.

“It was great to see the response from the passionate footballers in Rakiraki who came out in numbers and eager to learn the grassroots football development coaching,” said Dutt.

Dutt said the aim of the course was to equip the participants with grassroots football development tools.

“In Fiji Football Association, one of our key aims for grassroots football is to bring football to as many children as possible and without coaches, this will not be possible.

“Grassroots football coaches play a critical role in helping children develop the love for football and keep them in the game, mould right people for society and prepare the foundation for children with the potential to develop their talent further,” said Dutt.

The former Ba mentor added that grassroots football needed competent coaches, equipped with the right attitude, skills, and knowledge.

“This course, designed specifically for coaching children aged 6 to 14 years. Throughout the course, the participants were guided with theory and practical sessions, to provide them with the essential information on grassroots coaching,” said Dutt.
