FORMER Ba, national and Manukau United defender Kishan Sami has joined the Rewa side for the 2021 season.

Sami, who arrived in the country last weekend from New Zealand and was under quarantine and will be a sure starter for the Delta Tigers against the Capital City side this weekend in the National Premier League fixture.

Coach Roderick Singh confirmed that Sami joined the team on Monday.

“We will see how he gels with the team during training before he gets his debut for the Delta Tigers,”

said Singh.

Singh believes Kishan’s experience would be an asset for Rewa.

“He (Kishan) is a hardworking and experienced player and I think he will add more depth in our team,” said Singh.

The former Rewa rep said they had been preparing well for the season.

“Our preparation has been going well and we are ready for the opener but we anticipate a tough match against Suva.”

“Suva has more advantage as they have played the two leg series against Labasa in the Pillay Garments

Champion versus Champion series and will come out firing against us after their loss to the Babasiqa Lions,” said Singh.

Singh said their aim for this season was to win the league title.

“The goal has not changed for our side heading into the 2021 football season,” said Singh.

“Nothing has changed, the playing style still remains, the set of boys still remains. With this set of boys and inclusion of Sami and Madhwan Goundar, we will do our best this year.”

Singh added that New Zealandbased strength and conditioning coach Jozef Fleming has also joined Rewa’s coaching panel.

“His role is to ensure the players are physically and mentally prepared for the games and we have seen the changes in our players since his arrival two weeks ago,” said Singh.

Fleming is no stranger to Fijian football as he assisted Lautoka in the early part of last season and was part of their coaching panel in the OFC Champions’ League group stage play-off in Vanuatu.

The Rewa v Suva match kicks off at 3pm this Sunday at ANZ Stadium in Suva.
