Sponsors cash in on helping grassroots rugby growth

- By WAISALE KOROIWASA

WITH 7s development as its target in the national arena, Paradise Beverages Fiji Ltd has shifted its focus in supporting community projects as a way of giving back to communities.

Malomalo 7s organisers and Paradise Beverages signed a Fiji Bitter Malomalo 7s sponsorship deal last week.

This weekend its world renowned product Fiji Bitter will be sponsoring the Malomalo 7s tournament on the Coral Coast.

Paradise Beverages general manager sales and corporate affairs Joe Rodan Sr said they were fortunate to be part of rugby grassroots development.

“Not only we are helping budding rugby stars, we are also contributing in their livelihood,” Rodan Sr said.

“A lot of community-based groups are organising their tournaments to help in village projects or school targets. That is where we are fitting in.

“As a company, we have a social responsibility to account for and we are happy to help out.”

Rodan Sr said with the situation the country had been facing with the impact of COVID-19 and the past two tropical cyclones,

TC Yasa and TC Ana, the only thing people could do was carry out self-centred projects.

“We don't really need to rely on Government's assistance.

“Fiji Bitter is so humbled to be part of this community which is willing to take up those initiative and make their livelihoods developed. A lot of this organisers set out village or community projects such as making footpaths in Mokani, Tailevu, and in Wairiki. They are so good in utilising the 15-year partnership we have with them in developing their community.

“This is a historical moment for Fiji Bitter and Malomalo and the onus is on the organisers to make everything workout the way they set out to be.”

Games co-ordinator Semi Tanikili said the $10,000 sponsorship would help organisers run the tournament and their village project target.

“I want to thank Fiji Bitter because Nadroga will be benefiting from this tournament,” he said.

“I believe by organising the Malomalo 7s and the partnership we have with Fiji Bitter will benefit the people of Malomalo Village.”

The 7s tournament will be held on Friday and Saturday at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka.
