OLYMPIAN Anish Khem starred for Rewa yesterday by scoring a brace of goals to guide the Delta Tigers to a 3-0 victory against Nadroga in the Digicel Premier League at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

This was Rewa's second victory in round one of the DPL and Nadroga's third loss after five matches.

Khem put the Southerners in front in the 34th minute with a beautiful free kick from outside the box.

His drive was not stopped by Nadroga goalkeeper Sakeo Taganeca. Rewa led 1-0 at halftime.

Former national striker Osea Vakatalesau thwarted a wonderful equalising chance for Nadroga early in the second spell booting the ball wide from close range.

Rewa got its second goal in the 73rd minute when Samuela Nabenia pounced on a cross from right flank and powered the ball in from inside the six yard box.

Khem scored his double from the spot kick in the 77th minute after Tevita Waranivalu was fouled inside the Nadroga box. Rewa coach Roderick Singh said they travelled a day early from home for the match to acclimatise.

“When they perform well, the results will come. There are many areas that we will have to work on. If we had finished all our chances then we would have won by a higher margin,” Singh said.

Rewa will face Ba in the DPL next week.

Nadroga Football Association president Mohammed Ali said they lost to a better team on the day.

“We need to maintain our formation. We have two points with two more games, so the work rate of the players will need to improve.”
