Nadi Chamber of Commerce makes rugby plea

- By SITERI SAUVAKACOLO

“PLEASE spare some dollars for our vanua team, says Dr Ram Raju.”

This is the plea the Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry president will be making to some business houses in the Jetset Town as the Nadi rugby side continues its reign of the Farebrother Sullivan Trophy.

“Such sporting events are very much needed during such a time when the economy in Nadi Town is down as it draws a lot of crowd which obviously provides a lot of business and economic activities,” Dr Raju said.

“We will send mails requesting business houses to spare some dollars for the Nadi rugby team as this is our team and they have brought glory and smiles to the people of Nadi by retaining the Farebrother trophy.

“We got tens of thousands of spectators who come to watch the game every week and we thank them for providing business in Nadi.”

The Nadi-based clinician said the weekly rugby challenge had provided a much-needed business platform for many people who got laid-off work and continued to suffer a year after COVID-19.

He said the chamber continued to rally its support behind Nadi Rugby Union by way of requesting business houses if they could provide some sort of assistance where possible.

“Retaining and defending the trophy means more games and more businesses for Nadi Town.

“The downside, however, is that due to this pandemic, a lot of businesses are affected and they are not coming out willingly with cash grants.

“But for those who can, we are pleading with them, our team needs support, please assist them,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nadi takes on Naitasiri in the second round of challenge at the Prince Charles Park on Saturday.
