Chinese vaccines to arrive soon
CHINESE COVID-19 vaccines destined for Fiji are in the final stages of certification by the World Health Organization.
This was the word from Chinese ambassador to Fiji, Qian Bo.
“We have been discussing with the Government of Fiji on the assistance of Chinese vaccines,” he said.
“The Chinese vaccines are in the final stage of certification by WHO and so when that happens, I am sure the Chinese vaccine will arrive in Fiji very soon.
“We will make it accessible and affordable for all the developing countries, including Fiji.
“In that context, China has offered to provide some vaccines to Fiji.”
Mr Qian said China had produced more than two vaccines and all were in the final stages of WHO certification.
“In China, we have more than two vaccines, one is Sinovac, the other one is Sinofamm, and then there are one or two other vaccines.
“I am not quite sure, maybe Sinovac will be the vaccine that will be coming to Fiji.”
Mr Qian said he was unable to share how many doses would be provided to Fiji because “it has not been finalised yet”.
“You know every country is requesting for vaccines and there is an overall shortage in the world.
“And in China, we have a big population – 1.4 billion people – and we are also rolling out the vaccination program.
“We are balancing our domestic need with international cooperation. So far, China has donated vaccines to more than 80 countries in the world.”
