Religious group assists families
HINDU religious organisation, Fiji Sevashram Sangha (FSS) distributed grocery packs to more than 200 families in the Central Division last Saturday as part of its COVID-19 relief operations.
FSS coordinator Akhilesh Prasad said the relief operations started with a contribution of 250 packs of groceries by Jack’s of Fiji.
“The plight of the families who haven’t had any source of income for the last eight weeks is overwhelming and there are hundreds of other families in these communities who still require urgent assistance and have approached FSS to help out,” he said.
“While it is impossible to attend to all the families in need, our relief team will continue to reach out to needy families based on the resources.”
He said the packs were distributed by 15 groups of volunteers to needy families in River Rd, Narere, Nadera, Nadawa, Raiwaqa, Navua, Wainadoi, 8 miles, Nasole, Pilling Rd, Valelevu, Davuilevu, Lami, Veisari, Mali Place, Reservoir Rd, Caubati, Khalsa Rd, Nausori, Vatuwaqa, Sakoca, Waidamudamu and Muaniweni.
“Our volunteers in different parts of the Central Division were asked to identify needy families in their areas and submit a list of names and contact details to the FSS Suva ashram, where the list was verified.
“The Sangha is hoping that it will be able to undertake the second round of relief distributions in the Lami to Nausori corridor in the coming weekend.
“We are also calling upon our selfless donors and volunteers to provide whatever support they can to enable the FSS relief team to reach out to as many families as possible.”
