Virtual auction to raise funds

- By JALE DAUCAKACAKA

A GROUP of local designers and a member of Parliament, Lynda Tabuya, have joined forces to raise funds for Fijian families affected by the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Renowned designer Samson Lee says he and six other designers have given an outfit each from their new season collection to be sold at a virtual auction tomorrow.

“COVID-19 has affected all of us in Fiji and as small businesses, we understand how hard it is for people as we are experiencing hardships as well,” he said.

“But if we all try and help each other in whatever ways we can, we definitely can make life better for many and that is what we are doing through this auction.”

Designer Temesia Tuicaumia said it was hard to think that there could be families going without three meals in a day in Fiji.

“We hope the auction will attract bidders who are still fortunate to have funds to invest in high-end fashion but, more importantly, help us help Fijians,” he said.

Ms Tabuya called on Fijians to do whatever they could to help their fellow Fijians in need.

“It is time to put our differences aside and do whatever we can to help friends, families, neighbours and fellow Fijians,” she said.

“We are appealing to the Fijian diaspora overseas to join this auction, which will be in Fijian dollars and all they need to do is register through the Wearing Fiji Virtual Charity Auction page on Facebook and be online from 11am to 2pm Fiji time on Saturday to bid.”

Other local designers involved in the virtual auction include Hupfeld Hoerder, Robert Verebasaga, Natalia Larsen, Atelaite Daunibau and Andrew Powell.
