Healthy lifestyle to combat virus

-

THE rising numbers of COVID-19 cases worry Fijians. We let our guard loose, and this is the result. On Thursday, Dr Fong announced 431 cases and two deaths. He also stated that Fiji must prepare for the worst of the COVID-19 outbreak in the next few days and Fiji should be prepared for more deaths in the weeks to come. This is getting scarier.

This statement by Dr Fong: “We expect the new wave will arrive in four to five days from now and we expect it will be the most severe yet”, should not be taken lightly.

However, there was light in his words, “The science behind how this virus spreads tells us that masks, physical distancing, and handwashing, can work together to slow the spread”.

Dr Manasa Baleinamau urged Fijians to adhere to the COVIDsafe protocols, eat right and exercise to boost a person’s immune system. He added that living a healthy lifestyle was important to combat any form of illness and the same was true for COVID-19. This opinion was also echoed by Ciba Mawi, who featured in yesterday’s Times Shopper column. Mawi also urged Fijians to eat healthy during this pandemic.

Our editor-in-chief must also be commended for his daily powerful and well-coined editorials that shed further light on this pandemic. It’s important we take precautions, avoid social gatherings and overcrowding, wear masks, eat healthy, and wash our hands with soap and water. Indeed, time for solid and serious action now!

With rising cases, one expects the A-G, PM, Health Minister or President to address the nation.

I feel that Dr Fong has enough on his plate, although he has been an excellent ambassador of the
