Flying Fijians to start training together
THE Flying Fijians contingent is looking forward to getting out of quarantine in Christchurch, New Zealand today to prepare for the two test matches against the New Zealand All Blacks.
The team management together with the players are in separate bubbles in two different hotels making virtual communication, the only way to plan their daily sessions.
Flying Fijians head coach Vern Cotter said the players have taken the training responsibility upon themselves.
“This is the situation that we are not used to as the players are in their bubble at one hotel while the coaches are together in another,” Cotter said.
“So all our planning is done through zoom.
“The pre-training meeting is done through zoom with players in their room.
“Obviously the positive thing is that we are giving them information and they are taking the responsibility themselves to train.
“The idea is to try to grow our game piece by piece while we are in quarantine.
“We will all be out on Saturday so we are looking forward to that.”
The Flying Fijian players have been braving the cold conditions while training with temperatures dropping as low as two degrees Celsius.
Cotter said the players were adapting to the situation well.
“If you look outside the window in Christchurch, there are three or four centimetres of snow,” Cotter said.
“As we speak we have the players outside training but we have no contact to give them the detail of what they are executing on the paddock.”
