- By LUKE RAWALAI

GET yourself vaccinated because the COVID-19 crisis is threatening the life of every Fijian, says Cakaudrove paramount chief Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu.

He made the urgent plea as he addressed the people of his province last Friday.

Ratu Naiqama also said since the disease was completely new, the least they could do to help efforts in controlling the spread of the virus was to adhere to advisories issued by the Health Ministry.

He also urged his people to plant more food as the country’s future was uncertain.

Addressing his people during the vanua o Cakaudrove virtual COVID-19 discussion, he said because of the crisis, Government was carrying out a huge task in maintaining COVID-19 operations on the ground to assist those affected.

He appealed to his people to place their trust in God and to acknowledge Him always.

Ratu Naiqama also called on Cakaudrove people living in urban centres to strictly adhere to COVID-safe protocols.

He called on his people to acknowledge the sacrifices being made by their brothers and sisters on the frontlines in the battle against COVID-19.

Ratu Naiqama encouraged chiefs of other provinces to speak to their people about their roles and responsibilities as citizens as the country battled the outbreak.

Contributing to the same forum, member of Parliament Doctor Antonio Lalabalavu told the people of Cakaudrove not to take the pandemic lightly and called on them to get vaccinated to avoid getting severe symptoms of the virus.

Speaking about his position as a former intensive care unit physician, Dr Antonio said the unit was the last place any person would want to be admitted in.
