CONSUMERS have been urged to exercise extreme caution when engaging with businesses as it has received numerous complaints against an electronic business operating out of Samabula, Suva.

The business was said to specialise in retail of refurbishe­d computers, laptops and related accessorie­s.

Consumer Council of Fiji chief executive officer Seema Shandil said in 2021 alone, the council received 39 complaints against company out of which, the company only provided redress in 26 case after months of follow-ups by the council.

Thirteen cases against the business have been referred to the Fijian Competitio­n and Consumer Commission (FCCC) for enforcemen­t action as they were not forthcomin­g despite continuous efforts by the council.

In certain cases, cheques provided as redress bounced when consumers went to cash them.

Ms Shandil said the bulk of complaints against the business related to sale of faulty products to consumers whereby laptops, computers and other accessorie­s malfunctio­ned or developed issues soon after purchase.

“The company is also providing computer repair services, however, complaints lodged at the council reflects those repairs are conducted in a very shoddy manner without the existing issues being rectified,” she added.

While the council was not stopping consumers from engaging with the particular business it has issued an advisory so that consumers were cautious and made informed decisions. Consumers who have been sold faulty products were urged to lodge complaints with
