SITUATION
A HEAVY RAIN ALERT REMAINS IN FORCE FOR VANUA LEVU, TAVEUNI AND NEARBY SMALLER ISLANDS, LAU AND LOMAIVITI GROUP. A STRONG WIND WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR THE LAND AREAS OF LAU GROUP. Situation: A weak trough of low pressure remains over the eastern parts of the country. Meanwhile, another trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain lies to the northeast of the group and is expected to drift southwest and affect parts of the group from tonight. Forecast to midnight tonight for the Fiji group: For the land areas of Lau group: Expect northwesterly winds upto 50km/hr. Rough seas. For the rest of Fiji group: Moderate northwest to southeasterly winds. Moderate to rough seas. For Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands and the Lau and Lomaiviti group: Occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms. Isolated heavy falls expected. Showers becoming frequent and heavy and increasing to rain from tonight. For the rest of the Fiji group: Partly cloudy with showers and possible isolated thunderstorms especially in the afternoon or evening. Showers gradually increasing to rain from later tomorrow. Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas. Motorists can expect poor visibility and unfavourable driving conditions in areas of heavy falls.
