Rewa in top 2
REWA has moved into second position in the Digicel Premier League after a 2-0 victory against hosts Lautoka at Churchill Park yesterday.
The Delta Tigers staged a late rally scoring the goals in the final quarter.
Both teams created scoring opportunities but lacked finishing in the first half.
It was the fresh legs that did the damage for the visitors. Replacement Abbu Zahid found the back of the net in the 77th minute while Samuela Nabenia also came off the bench to double Rewa's tally five minutes later.
With the result, Rewa remains unbeaten in the competition.
Rewa coach Rodrick Singh said they came out firing in the match looking for three points.
"We knew that a win would push us back into second spot on the points table just to keep a close tab on leader Suva," Singh said.
"This win was very good but we made a slow start. In the second half we picked up the pace a bit and were able to score."
The Delta Tigers haven't won the national league title (DPL) since the inaugural competition back in 1977.
Singh said with this set of players the target was to make history.
"We have never won the national league title and we believe this is our year and to win the title is the target," he said.
Lautoka coach Anginesh Prasad said both the teams had their chances but Rewa capitalised with theirs.
"The game was of high standard and our boys played well," Prasad said.
"But there are still many areas that we need to work on."
Prasad said playing two DPL matches within five days wasn't a problem.
"I did not see any fatigue in the players as they gave it their best shot," he said.
"It was just the concentration lapses which allowed Rewa to score.
"We gave away possession with space and they made two attacks and scored. We have been conceding goals in all the games and need more time to work with the players."
