Pray for peace

-

MINISTER Parveen Kumar believes every citizen has a responsibility to “pray for the country so that you can live in peace” (FT 3/5).

I believe what the country actually needs is good democratic governance with respect for the rule of law, human rights, press freedom, freedom from repression and integrity in leadership.

That is the foundation for living in peace and harmony in the country.

Plan travelling

EITHER you weep or complain about the increased fuel price. The fuel price will remain the same for some time. All we can do is budget our travelling. Do not make frequent rounds to a relative’s place or town. Plan well before you go shopping. It’s expensive but we all don’t have a choice.

Girmit Day

I MUST say that I agree with Selwa Nandan, the secretary of the Fiji Girmit Council, that the organisation had been commemorating the Girmit Day every year in the memory of our indentured ancestors ever since its establishment in 1979 (FT 04/05). I also remember attending this annual function as a student at the Girmit Centre in Lautoka.Anyone else having any doubts or who claim that this was not happening before, should humbly consult the organisers.

Ballot papers

I BELIEVE serial numbers on ballot papers do not identify voters. Why is the SOE suggesting it may? How do we know the number of ballot papers printed if there is no serial number? DAN URAI

New fuel price

COULD the CEO of CCCF tell us how is the new price of fuel determined with the left over fuel in the storage tanks? Is there actually any calculations done or just trial and error? SUKHA SINGH

Super Rugby

GET ready Lautoka, as on May 28 one can expect thousands to congregate to watch the Fijian Drua take on the Chiefs. The Drua may still be the babies of this Super rugby competition but they are eager to learn. For now, I am not concerned about victory but looking forward to an improved performance by the Drua over two halves. Let’s be realistic in our expectations. One can expect fans from the west to jam the booths to purchasing tickets. Meanwhile, the Flying Fijians coach is faced with a nightmare. Will he pick players based on reputation? Is he prepared to select players based on performance? If so, then he cannot overlook a number of players in the Drua. FLOYD ROBINSON Toorak, Suva
