AQUAHEAT South Pacific Ltd has been praised for providing job opportunities to women in a male dominated field.

According to Minister for Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport Faiyaz Koya, the company has achieved great things since they started operations in Fiji.

“They have a substantial number of women actually in trade here,” he said.

“It’s important to meet them and see them, they are getting into different parts of this particular business and they are on the field etc. So it’s great to see females venturing into electrical work and different kinds of things they normally wouldn’t in male-dominated environment.”

The company, according to the minister, has an apprenticeship scheme.

He said the company was quiet proud of these workers within this particular environment.

He said Aquaheat was one of the companies in Fiji which was doing substantial amount of work in the electrical division.

“I think they are also looking into the plumbing division shortly, mechanical, fire, refrigeration also.

“I think that they also have taken things to a new level.

“They have completely eradicated any problems that exist within the systems that they put in place etc,” said Mr Koya.

Aquaheat South Pacific Ltd general manager Anusheel Chandra said growth had been phenomenal for the company.

“It is a male dominated industry, the entire construction industry is and we are a subset of that.

“But we need to at some point start breaking that down.”

He said there were up to 12 women employed with the company which was also set to grow.
