Stage set for Malomalo 7s as organisers savour Fiji squad’s inclusion
THE people of Nadroga-Navosa are looking forward to this weekend’s Fiji Bitter Malomalo 7s which starts today.
Malomalo Rugby Club executive Semi Tanikali said the inclusion of the Fiji 7s squad to the Toulouse 7s in France was a boost to the tournament.
“The whole of Nadroga-Navosa is expected to be at Lawaqa Park this weekend,” Tanikali said.
“We are crazy for rugby and when our people heard that the Fiji 7s team will be playing, feedback we received had been that people from our remotest parts will be at Lawaqa Park to watch them.
“Most of them have not seen Ben Gollings in person, so this tournament is the first chance for them to see the star player who they only watched on television in the past.
“Some of them had seen him during past Coral Coast Sevens, but for him to give time to help us fundraise to improve our lives, is a gesture that we will never forget.”
Tanikali said the Fiji Barbarians, as guest team, had been scheduled to play two Nadrogabased teams today.
“They will play Malomalo, the hosts of the tournament at 9.12am and Vusama, which includes Police winger Taniela Rakuro and some Nadroga reps at 12pm.
“We are excited to watch the Fiji 7s reps show us what they will do in France before they compete in the Toulouse 7s. We wish them the best and thank Fiji Rugby Union and Ben Gollings to agreeing to play in our tournament.
“We call on rugby fans to come and support us because money we raise from the tournament
