Comparison to Sri Lanka
OUR A-G and Minister for Economy, honourable Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has finally replied to Dr Neelesh Gounder’s commentary. On Monday May 2, the USP academic had stated that Fiji should learn from Sri Lanka’s economic and political crisis or else Fiji may end up in a similar calamity.
Honourable A-G justified that Fiji is spending on building capital infrastructure which Sri Lanka may not have done. He clarified the Government’s smart borrowings have in fact improved the Fijian economy. And on the same page, in another news headline, the leader of Fiji Labour Party Mahendra Chaudhry claims that the Government has “reduced Fiji to a beggar nation”. (FT 06/05)
Let the truth come out, either from the Government or the other sources. The voters want the truth and not the lasulasu. And we pray that our beloved Fiji never ends up like Sri Lanka.

FNPF investment
HOW can FNPF make an investment in Aspen Medical when the CEO of Aspen has said that they won’t make profits for the first 10 years of operation?
FNPF is not a government arm that should bear the losses for services that the government should provide. It is an investment vehicle for its members and all its investments must be profit-oriented in order to give the best returns to its members.
FNPF please think like a business, act like a business. It’s our money, not the government’s treasury. KIRAN KHATRI Samabula, Suva

21st century exploitation
SO the partnership between the Fiji National Provident Fund and Aspen Medical of Australia to manage the Ba and Lautoka Hospital was fully funded by the FNPF with Aspen borrowing another $424,00 from FNPF?
What is Aspen’s contribution? The brains?
Smells like a 21st century exploitation facilitated by this Government.
Where will the operating costs and costs for capital projects come from? Who funds that?
I’m sure the members whose funds have been used do not care about the glitz and glamour of a model such as the PPP, all they want is to be cared for medically with doctors and nurses that care with equipment that work.
Imagine if the same funds were pumped into our existing infrastructure. The only problem is, government will have to pay it back and who knows how long that will take. SAILOSI NAEWE Naduru Rd, Nausori
Mother’s Day
MOTHER’S Day is one of the occasions when you can show your gratitude to your lovely and gorgeous mother. The oodles of happiness and bunch of jovial moments that she has given you indeed need a celebration. This day should be celebrated everyd ay as mothers’ work never stops 24/7.
She is the one who first showed you the world and now it’s your turn to show her the world. A mother takes every pain simply for her child without uttering a single word of dissatisfaction.
Nobody else can be as caring as a mother. And therefore, she deserves to be celebrated for the way she has made your life a celebration with her unspoken prayers and continuous efforts.
One relationship which is always with us is the one we share with our mothers. They are our guiding force and are responsible for making us who we are. Happy and prosperous day to all mums.
