Keep an open mind and try something new

AS one of Nausori Town’s local florist, Sainiana Leweitini finds joy and honour in creating arrangements for some of the most emotional moments in people’s lives.

For more than eight years, she has been demonstrating why she wanted to be a florist — her arrangements are as unique as fingerprints.

“Flowers remind me of how God’s beautiful creation has brought so many people happiness,” she said.

“I started as a market vendor at the old Nausori market selling fresh produce but I had always wanted to start my own flower business. When I finally had the opportunity, I was so excited because my dream and passion was finally becoming a reality.”

Her business, Sai Flowers, continues to make an impact within her community. She delivers floral arrangements for church functions, birthdays, weddings and funerals to name a few.

“I sell four days a week and could rake in about $100 plus on a good day,” Mrs Leweitini said.

“Business is usually slow when school starts, on rainy days and during the cyclone season when most flowers are destroyed. This business has helped me provide food for my six children and husband. It has helped me pay for their education, school stationeries, bills and soli contributions.” even make payments or

The 49-year-old has a garden full of palms, anthuriums, red ginger, heliconia, pot plants and much more at her home in Dakuivuna Village in Wainibuka.

Her only advice to those who are looking for jobs is to use your talents and help others when you can. “You’ll never know if you like something or if it’s something that you would have enjoyed. You could be totally unaware of an activity, hobby or career that you would excel at because you’ve never given it a go or tried. Keep an open mind, and don’t be afraid to try something new.”
