WOMEN in sporting federations and reporters were challenged to accept any task no matter how hard it is.

New Delhi Television Ltd sports editor and the only female sports reporter, Rica Roy told all women participants that nothing is hard if you put your mind and soul to it.

She was speaking at a threeday workshop hosted by Women in News and Sports (WINS) that is run by ABC International Development and focused on Mobile storytelling and inclusive reporting.

“Working as a sports reporter is very challenging in many ways,” she said.

“I get questioned whether I know my off side field every day when I walk into the news room, I have to be the best man for the job. To be the best person for the job, how do I do it? I prepare well for it.”

She said with these kind of workshops, it enabled women, not only journalists but every woman involved in the media, to be familiar with their tools.

FIJI Pearls head coach Unaisi Rokoura has set out her plan for the Fiji under-21 squad members ahead of the 2025 World Youth Cup.

The Fiji under-21 extended squad had its first training together at the FMF Gymnasium.

The former Fiji netball player said the development began now instead of having last minute scouting.

“We begin now with a small number and then we build up, working with the girls.

“There will be more time to prepare and for these players to be selected, it will give them a sense of what is expected of them and it will change their mindset in terms their achievement.”

Rokoura said one of the challenges she faced was getting the players to acclimatise to the training.

“Majority of these players have the potential to become a Fiji Pearl.

“This opportunity is given the players. They need to expect the unexpected, meaning intense training in order to become a Fiji Pearl - this is the kind of training they will go through.

“Since this is our first session together, it’s all about understanding the basics and majority of these players haven’t gone through this kind of training.

“As we begin we start slow and as we move up we gain the momentum we’ll see how their performance improves.

“We will see them getting more tactical and more technically in terms of their playing skills.”
