New appointments to help grow business presence

- By MONIKA SINGH

AS the much-awaited work on Nawi Island marina goes on and it continues to grow its presence across the world, it is important for them to have someone that can help drive business, increase investor interest and whose operational experience will be invaluable.

For this reason the developers announced the appointment of Brian Mordecai as director of Hotel Joint Venture.

A statement from Nawi Island said with 15 years of experience in resort development, operations and asset management spanning three continents, Mr Mordecai is focused on creating five star guest experiences and generating returns for investors, developers and residence customers.

“I am excited to be joining the Nawi team as it is such a unique and world class legacy asset. Having done projects ranging from 6 room luxury boutiques to 499 key large scale hotels I am particularly interested in creating a five star multi dimensional design and guest experience that will effortlessly accommodate yacht owners, charter guests, resort guests and residence owners in a seamless fashion and style.

“There has been such incredible work done with this site from dredging the marina to accommodate world class yachts, to the full reticulation of the Marina Residences, an amazing 25 acre hotel site and Custom Build Estate lots that we have a blank canvas to create an experience unlike any other,” said Mr Mordecai.

The management also announced the appointment of Sarah Makutu as a Marine Biologist.

With a Bachelor of Science in Marine Science she has years of experience in observing, studying and reporting on animals and plants that inhibit the marine environment.

Specializing in resort marine conservation and preservation, she will be focused on Nawi’s environmental responsibility, impacts and long term sustainability.

“I hail from Rukua Village on Beqa Island so I’m extremely passionate about the Ocean and everything in and around it. I’ve experienced first hand the environmental effects on our marine life so I’m extremely excited to join the Nawi team at this development stage to ensure that we remain focused on getting our marine and environmental responsibilities right, from the very start.

These goals are entrenched in their development plans and I’m happy to be a local woman tasked to take this forward. And the opportunity to be a Fijian woman, in a predominantly male dominated field of expertise, is a welcome challenge, to change the social norm, and I’m grateful for Nawi who recognize the potential in my abilities,” Ms Makutu said.

According to the Nawi team “Sarah’s hands on experience in the local environment will be a key factor as we continue with development, and her quadrant methods will enable Nawi to mitigate risks and achieve our ultimate goal of being an environmentally sustainable development.”
