Bread and butter

I REFER to the lengthy letter by Tarun Tikaram, “Rabuka no show” (FT 31/5).

Mr Tikaram, the majority of the population are more concerned about bread and butter issues than about The People’s Alliance/ NFP joint talanoa session where Rabuka did not show up. I don’t see it as a shameful event, everyone including you have the right to express themselves.

Any government that comes into power spends, it is not money from their own pockets. Mr TT, name the 13 cyclones, massive flooding in Fiji in the past three years. Better still, do a TT — (TikTok) of all the misgiving of opposition parties.

The fact of the matter is that like me, you and this Government will also not be around to see if all the debts are paid on time.

Definitely, the high cost of living, unemployment and poverty level is here to stay, irrespective of which government comes into power.

You are the one, likely bent on worrying about Rabuka and Biman. Ordinary Fijians are least bothered about overseas trips by politicians.

I am no politician but I personally contribute big time in society. Come to the West and I will take you around to show the real status of many ordinary Fijians minus the potholes.

How much do you contribute? Better still, may I invite you in advance to represent me in August at the Lautoka Golf Club and hand over my personal $7000 donation towards WOWS Kids Fiji for children suffering with cancer.

By the way there will be no Biman or Rabuka, but a number of families from Muka settlement in Lautoka to receive groceries.

100 per cent no politics involved and lasulasu.

Revoke expat work

CAN the next government please consider revoking expatriate work permits and alternatively offer jobs to competent Fijians? I believe our skilled locals have been deprived of equal employment opportunities for the past decade or so since there has been a conspicuous influx of expats to our shores.

Some of them barely speak a word of English, yet have somehow been permitted to trickle into the country to take up lucrative employment offers with hefty packets and privileges.

Please send these expats back to their homelands and absorb our capable locals into the various fields of Fiji’s employment sector.

Fijians first please!

Sigatoka and glory

SIGATOKA is known for attracting large crowds at rugby matches but this weekend it is a different story.

The semi-finals of the 2022 Digicel Fiji FACT has much at stake for Labasa,

WBa, Suva and Lautoka. Tempers will flare as the glory of championship is at stake and the painful feeling of defeat is something none of the four soccer power houses will want to experience. For now, I am tipping Lautoka and Labasa to stand tall when the dust settles.

Manifesto lookout

IF you are more of an animal lover than a human lover, for the upcoming elections look out for manifestos that have something in them for animal welfare.

Most manifestos would probably ignore our four-legged friends.
