Fireworks at Lawaqa Park!
World Wave project
THE vanua o Wainikeli have spoken and their voice was loud and clear, they do not want anything to do with the World Wave Project (WWP) in Qamea.
Interesting to read the response from World Wave Project where in a statement, the company said they were surprised with the feedback they received at the consultation held in Naselesele Village, hence they conclude that WWP will not consider any further investments in Fiji FT 31/05).
While I take my hat off to the company executive Dr Shaw Mead for respecting the decision of the landowners and would not proceed further with the environmental impact assessment (EIA) application, however, I am alerted by the stand taken by the company that they will not consider any further investment in Fiji.
From my personal opinion, I believe the company’s consideration, not to do any further investment in Fiji, sounds more like a threat than an affirmation. KOSITATINO TIKOMAIBOLATAGANE Vuninokonoko Rd, Navua
APART from witnessing our former football players showing what they have in their tank, Lawaqa Park will host two mouth-watering semi-finals today.
Firstly, the mighty Babasiga Lions will host traditional giants Ba, followed by the Suva versus Lautoka showdown. Labasa and Suva topped their pools, but this is knock-out football and Ba and Lautoka have come prepared to dethrone the pool winners.
Suva has a lot of depth in their squad and will be favourites to defend their title.
They are the only unbeaten side in the semi-final. The Lions proved critics wrong to qualify for the semi-final and that too as pool winners despite losing to the Blues 2-1.
The Lions are a tournament team and their last meeting with Ba ended in them thrashing Ba 5-2.
They will want to continue with that winning momentum and rhythm and after beating Nadi 2-0, the Lions are on song.
Fans will travel in numbers to show their support to the semi-finalists.
I wish the Babasiga Lions and the “Voice of Football” Raymond Stoddart all the best! Red fire!

Memory loss guy
IT’S evident that one Jan
Nissar from Down Under, has swallowed hook, line, sinker and all, as per his reply (FT
3/6) to mine (FT 2/6).
Then again, what should one expect from the guy whom I’ve “christened”, “Mr Naturally Dopey”? Kaila! This is the very same guy who relishes in referring to Fijians as “grog dopeys”.
He stated in his LTE (FT 3/6) that he “always knew about PAFCO”, so if such is the case, why then pose the question of asking about something that he already “knew about”?.
No wonder Raymond Singh refers to him as “the memory loss guy from Sydney”. Kaila. Obviously, not all who work for PAFCO pay income tax, as is the norm with majority businesses nationwide. But yes, some do pay tax and whatever amount payable, shouldn’t equate to the level of development rendered to the Island. This is the 21st century mate, if you may have forgotten.
PAFCO is the main provider of employment on Ovalau but is not the only source. There’s approximately 100 plus civil servants and other private sector workers together with numerous businesses which pay various other taxes and not only income tax which you seem to be so intimate with. Accordingly, as I’ve stated in my previous letter, you can keep wondering until the cows come home, how much income tax the people of Ovalau pay but the fact is, the people of Ovalau have paid millions in tax previously and will continue to do so. All your other utterances do not warrant a reply as they are frivolously trivial in nature. Nothing surprising. Again, if you’re man enough, please do not hesitate to contact me on 8061406 on your next visit, so I could take you to my home Island, FOC, and introduce you to the friendly local populace.
Please don’t bring melted chocolate cause we make our own on Ovalau.

Warped logic
ACCORDING to Jan Nissar of NSW, Australia, because the people of Ovalau pay “close to nil” in tax they do not deserve decent roads.
If we were to extrapolate from his warped logic then the people of Ovalau also do not deserve State funded schools, public health facilities, social welfare support, and even the police force!
See the absurdity inherent in Nissar’s logic?

Ban from Fiji
THERE is a lass from Lautoka who thinks I should be banned from entering Fiji, just because of my opinions. I am sure she is a champion of free speech, at least that is what she thinks.
In reality she is not aware that she is really a hypocrite, until I point it out that is. She should make full disclosure as to why she is sucking up to NFP and Rabuka, as a start.
As for solutions to Fiji’s problems, it is very simple.
All the solutions are looking back at everyone in the mirror in Fiji. But then, I have to point that out too, again.

Never argue
I JUST wish to request those learned letters to the editor writers who are having discussions with the man from the Land Down Under, please never argue. They will drag you down to their level, then beat you with their experience and then there will be two of them.

Letters to the editor
I HAVE a strong feeling that this letter is destined for the recycle bin but I can’t resist the temptation. When I read a letter in this column during the week, I felt like asking its writer — What drugs are you taking?
