FIJI’S Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Champions League qualifiers Rewa was held to a 1-all draw by a defiant Ba in the Digicel Premier League at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday.

After a scoreless first spell, Rusiate Matarerega opened the scoring in the 51st minute.

Etonia Dogalau equalised for Ba in the 78th minute. Ba Football Association president Amzad ‘Sunny’ Khan said they fielded a young team.

He said the result was good for the youth players who joined the senior side this season.

“For most of them, we have to work a lot more to develop their skills,” Khan said.

Rewa coach Marika Rodu said the hot conditions affected his players.

He said the boys were down most of the game.

“I think we lost our fitness level after the OFC Champions League qualifiers,” Rodu said.

“We were not the same as last week. There were many injury concerns and some of our players had heavy strapping in the game.

“We are trying to manage the boys to avoid more injuries for the rest of the season.

“We are rebuilding the team combination and as the season goes on, we expect more injuries to creep in with so much football in the season.”
