Warriors ready

- By PAULINI CURUQARA

LIVALIVA Warriors touch rugby team is getting their touches up for the Fijian Cup on November 3 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

The Touch Federation Fiji has released the extended squad for the men’s and women’s team.

Coach Maleli Uluimoala said they were fielding two teams for the competition, named the Four Kings and Livaliva Warriors touch rugby team.

He said coming back after two years it had set the platform for the players to prove themselves if they wanted to make it to the final squad.

“We have just began our training after completing our weekly competition and we’re trying to get these players together just to gel in with each other, get to know each other and most of all learn from each other,” he said.

“Our long term plan is to have an extended squad preparing for the National qualifiers towards the South Pacific Games next year.

“These two shadow teams will help us identify the best players to represent the country and to put

Fiji back in to the number one spot in the Pacific.

“With the Fijiana Cup next month it’s the best way to expose these players and to try to bring out the best of them in this competition.

“Its not only we’re preparing for the Fijian Cup but for the SPG next year.”

He added that some of the challenges they face is not having the proper training venue and facility to help build up for the sport.

“We are grateful to some rugby clubs that allow us to use their facilities but we’re in our long term plan to have our own training facility.”

The Fijian Cup has four divisions – Men’s, Women’s, Mixed Open and Mixed Masters.
