- By PAULINI CURUQARA

A TOTAL of 40 youths from Verata in Tailevu received their certification on the Sports Train the Trainer program.

The five-day training included rugby coaching, netball coaching, netball umpiring and sports administrators courses.

The participants learnt skill sets, which included accrediting community leaders through NSO coaching and refereeing accreditations, setting participants on coaching, officiating or administration pathways, developing skills relating to establishing and managing community multi-sports clubs, developing events organisation skills and designing club structures, constitutions, and codes of ethics for club stakeholders.

Minister for Youth and Sports, Parveen Kumar highlighted that it is only through such training, sporting talents are exposed.

“Not only sporting talents but also sports administrators. Some of you may already be active umpires and know the rules of volleyball, netball and rugby league. But through this training, you will become accredited officials,” he said.

“We are confident that after this you will be able to form your community sports associations, improve your sports skills and identify potential sporting talents.”

He said under the National Development Plan, Government was committed to developing a productive and healthy nation through sports.

“This is for all Fijians.”
