Election ‘last opportunity’ to retreat from disaster
THE 2022 General Election is our last opportunity to bring Fiji and its people back from the brink of economic and social disaster.
This was the view of renowned Nadi-based lawyer and National Federation Party candidate for the 2022 polls, Dorsami Naidu.
Alluding to the present administration, he said sometimes leaders must learn to step aside and not cling to power at any cost in the belief that “they have all the answers and are the chosen saviours”.
“Let’s have free and transparent elections without the need to place thorns on the path of political parties and the electorate but allow them to participate in free and fair elections which can be termed the will of the people,” Mr Naidu said.
“I believe that this is our last opportunity to bring back Fiji and its people from the brink of economic and social disaster.
“I am an optimist and believe that the electorate has become more discerning and wiser in the last 16 years.”
Mr Naidu, who served in Parliament
in the ’90s, said people should not be fooled by the assistance provided by the Government.
He claimed the handouts were not from Fiji’s hard-earned economic activity, but rather from foreign loans, grants and from “dipping into the Fiji National Provident Fund without consideration to transparency or any form of accountability”.
“We should not forget that we are in debt to the tune of billions of dollars which will have to be paid by our young people who will be the future taxpayers as it is a huge burden on our national economy.
“Democracy should give us security and inclusivity where we can more than coexist as a nation and as a people.”
