Gollings to make a few changes
THERE will be changes in the Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team a head of the Dubai and Cape Town sevens
Coach Ben Gollings in a statement said they were nursing a few injuries to some of the players who were part of the Hong Kong 7s.
Gollings said that he would be finalising his traveling squad on the weekend.
It was a change of training scenario for the team as they moved their training camp to the Old Capital Levuka.
They have gone through a few training sessions, schools and community visits.
He said they were taking a different approach for the 2022/2023 World Rugby Sevens Series and have planned to visit different parts of Fiji and base their training camps.
“It’s good to be in Levuka which has also helped with supporting the connection with the community and a totally new environment for the players to train,’ he said.
“We have had several training sessions at Nasau Park and it looks like the players are refreshed and very much focused for the next two legs of the Sevens Series.
“Levuka has no distractions and the focus is purely on training and connecting with the local community who hardly have a chance to see their 7s stars playing in front of them.
“We have also planned for a few communities and school visits. I think it’s also a great time to give back to the people of Levuka and an opportunity for them to meet and greet the sevens players.
“There may be some changes as we are nursing a few injuries to some of the players who were part of the Hong Kong 7s.
“The majority of the squad will consist of the players who played in the Hong Kong 7s and if there is any injury we are making sure that we have cover for them.
The training camp in Levuka finishes today.
The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team is pooled with Argentina, New Zealand and Uruguay for Dubai 7s which kicks off on the 2nd of December.
Fijian 7s faces Uruguay in their first pool match at 8.12pm on the 2nd of December.
They then play New Zealand at 11.11pm before taking on Argentina the following day at 5.05am.
