Wati never eats junk food

- By ELENA VUCUKULA

EATING healthy is good, people can live longer when they eat healthy. These are the wise words of Indra

Wati.

Mrs Wati is healthy because she makes healthy life choices, particularly with things she consumes.

At the age of 63, Mrs Wati still runs her errands like shopping on her own. Of course with some exceptional days when her daughter does accompany her to the supermarket.

Mrs Wati has been a regular shopper at Rajendra’s Supermarket in Valelevu, Nasinu.

She does her grocery shopping once in a month.

“I ensure that I stay within the limit of the money I have allocated to spend on food items,” she said.

“My advice to shoppers is to buy food items from supermarkets that are cheap and that sells fresh vegetables.”

Mrs Wati’s husband had died 20 years ago and she has been sewing door mats to earn a living.

She chooses Rajendra’s Supermarket because of the prices of food items there are affordable and the quality of products sold are good.

“I like to eat fresh vegetables and I have never eaten junk food like Bongos and Twisties,” she said.

“What I also do not eat is too much sweets during Diwali and takeaway food because it is not good for my health.”

Mrs Wati said the vegetables she cooks at home are karela (bitter gourd), bean and tomatoes for chutney.

“I don’t eat blended food but

I have my food with rice or roti and ensure that I have a healthy diet,” she said.

“Sometimes I wake up early at 5am to prepare myself for the day.

“I would always drink boiled water and not eat a lot of meat.”

Mrs Wati said people should eat healthier foods.
