THE newly formed Fiji Women in Dairy Association (FWDA) has been described as an important step in unifying the women farmers engaged in the business of dairy farming.
Fiji Crop & Livestock Council (FCLC) chief executive officer Jiu Daunivalu said each of the Naitasiri Women in Dairy farmers represented a family–owned farm, which were already registered through Fiji Cooperative Dairy Company Ltd (FCDCL).
“The other two other cluster groups who have joined FWDA are Tailevu Women in Dairy and Navua Women in Dairy.
“These women are working together on a collective basis and are seeking ways to increase their dairy herds, their access to pastureland, and their milk production volumes,” she said.
Ms Daunivalu said as members of FWDA, now a registered FCLC farmer organisation, the women would be able to take advantage of support and training facilitated by FCLC and also be able to access possible funding sources in order to attain their business goals.
“FCLC welcomes all women Dairy farmers to become members of this umbrella organisation, and we commend the efforts made by members of the contributing cluster organisation, the Naitasiri Women in Dairy, who co-ordinated with
FCLC to bring about this important development,” said Mrs Daunivalu.
She said the council looked forward to working with all FWDA members as they explored possibilities to expand their business potential.
