THE Fiji 7s side is aware of the importance of producing results in tournaments on the World 7s Series if we are to win the tourney.

The Fiji men’s side, has managed three series titles in 2005/2006, 2014/2015 and 2018/2019.

We have finished second on six previous occasions.

The Ben Gollings coached side currently sits in second spot on the standings with 19 points, three behind defending series champions, Australia.

The side has a chance to improve on the standings at next weekend’s tournament in Dubai and at the Cape Town event a week later.

Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor said the players know the importance of these tournaments.

“It always feels good when the team wins and we know how important producing results at these tournaments are. With series points on the line as well as Olympic qualifications, we have reminded the players to be at their best,” O’Connor said.

He added that he has faith in the coach and the team he has named.

“Coach Ben Gollings has selected a strong team and we wish them well. The team has trained well and is preparing themselves for departure.”

O’Connor added the return of Alasio ‘Mr Nitro’ Naduva is expected to boost the morale of the side.

“Naduva has been training with the team and he has caught the eyes of the national coach after some good performances at local tournaments. We all are aware of his capabilities and we hope to see him perform well in the next two tournaments.”

The Dubai 7s will be held on December 2-3. Fiji is pooled with Argentina, New Zealand and Uruguay.
