DAUGUNU LEADS SIDE TO FAMOUS VICTORY Wardens win

- By PAULINI CURUQARA on Taveuni

THE WARDENS team has finally won the Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s carnival after beating Police Blue 7-0 in final on Taveuni yesterday.

The win comes after three years participating in the tournament.

Team captain and former national 7s player Tevita Daugunu led his team to victory.

Sakiasi Balevula was the lone scorer and the conversion was kicked over by Netava Koroisau in the first half.

Police Blue copped a yellow card five minutes into the first half which resulted in the Wardens’ first try.

Police came in strong in the second half but could not find the perfect break.

Daugunu said they had been working hard on their defence throughout the tournament.

“It was all about team work and determination that resulted in this win,” he said.

“We had won Nawaka 7s and now another major tournament. All praise to the Almighty for the strength.”

For the Police Blue, their hope to secure a win and have a double celebration to commemorate the Sukuna Bowl win was crushed.

Manager Sale Tubuna said they lost to a good team and he took his hat off to their boys for the job well done.

The Wardens walked away with $10,000. Police Blue settled for $5000.

Lavidi Brothers came in third and Combat Uluinakau Babaas finished fourth.

Nadi side Westfield Barbarians won the plate final. Local side Raiwasa Taveuni was runners up.

Jason Reality Nahehevia from Kadavu won the bowl final and Veivatuloa from Namosi settled in for the runners up tag.

JSF Malolo won the shield while Tak Brothers came in as runner-up.

For the Tribe competition, Domoni Wai Salvos were crowned winners and St John Draiba won the Joske competition.
