FIJI Airports is expected to return to 90 plus per cent of operations and network capacity in 2023.
The chief executive officer of Fiji Airports, Rowan Chalmers made this comment during a press conference in Nadi on Thursday commemorating Fiji’s one-year anniversary of international borders re-opening.
“As demand for travel and tourism recovers, we are getting back to the level of operations where we had left in 2019 before the pandemic,” he said.
He said our passenger volume so far in 2021, represented 97 per cent of the airport’s pre-pandemic passenger traffic during the same period in 2019.
“Our flight volume is at 83 per cent of 2019 levels and air navigation operations at 71 per cent.
“Fiji Airports has seen a substantial recovery throughout 2022.”
Mr Chalmers said they were heading into 2023 with optimism.
“We have built up some momentum this year and expect business growth to pick up speed in the new year.”
He said their aim for 2023 was to build back better and stronger in order to deliver even better experiences to their customers.
“Within the airport environment, customer-facing partners in the retail service, restaurant and beverage space showed incredible resilience through the downturn, however, we were able to maintain their business and moved quickly to re-open outlets as passenger traffic and demand increased.”
