Second most improved airline award for carrier

THE president of Asia-Pacific Applied Economics Associatio­n (APAEA), Professor Paresh Narayan has made it his mission to revive The Fiji Accountant, a journal once published by the Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountant­s (FICA).

FICA and the APAEA signed a Memorandum of Understand­ing this week to build a working relationsh­ip to jointly support and develop educationa­l programs and research that are mutually beneficial to both institutio­ns and encourage the growth of the local accounting and finance field.

The president of FICA Tarlochan Singh, said: “This afternoon is a milestone for the Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountant­s because the partnershi­p we’re going to forge today will be the start of a new era.”

Prof Narayan concurred, saying: “This is a very significan­t occasion for us. When two institutio­ns come together, two sets of brains come together, that leads to innovation.”

FICA has more than 800 members and the partnershi­p is expected to grow that number.

FIJI Airways was awarded as the second most improved airline globally and also the most improved airline in Australia and Pacific during the 2022 Skytrax awards in September.

Prof Narayan said reviving the journal was a key priority as it would offer a platform for accounting and economics students to have their ideas reach industry experts and develop a culture of innovation.

The same innovative and open learning yesterday while commemorat­ing Fiji’s one-year anniversar­y of internatio­nal border re-opening said the amount of work that was put into making the national airline a better airline post the pandemic was exemplifie­d in the number of internatio­nal awards won.

According to Mr Viljoen, Fiji Airways was also awarded the best airline staff service in Australia mind-set will be brought to FICA’s annual conference allowing discussion on areas of key importance to national developmen­t such as climate change and green accounting, equipping the next generation of accountant­s to handle cases of natural disasters and climate issues affecting and Pacific during the Skytrax awards.

“We were in the top 20 for world’s best airline cabin crew and world’s best airport services plus in the top 10 for world’s best airline cabin cleanlines­s.

“In October, during the 2022 Apex Awards, we received the five-star major airline 2023.”

He said it was a huge moment businesses.

Prof Narayan said: “I’m very much keen to see how we can do innovative things where we integrate with the younger generation of accountant­s.”

The MoU was signed on Thursday at the Sun Insurance board room. to stand alongside major airlines CEO’s during the Apex Awards.

“It was a very proud moment to stand amongst the major airlines that have hundreds of aircraft and thousands of staff’s in comparison to our 19 aircraft and 1300 staff. It was a very proud moment not just for Fiji Airways but for the whole of Fiji to be recognised as a major airline.”

Mr Viljoen said during the Apex/ FTE awards last month, the national airline also received the five-star major airline Asia-Pacific 2023.

“In the Apex/FTE awards, we also received the Passenger Choice award for best food & beverage South Pacific 2023 and Passenger Choice Award for Best Seat Comfort South Pacific 2023.”
