Belgium, Germany eliminated

THE football fraternity mourned as Belgium and Germany were eliminated from the Soccer World Cup.

Croatia played a goalless draw as Romelu Lukaku missed several golden scoring opportunit­ies.

Croatia, which was the 2018 runners-up, led by former Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric, progressed as the second-placed team in Group F behind African side Morocco, which beat Canada 2-1.

Germany also bid farewell to the World Cup, and Japan stunned Spain and accompanie­d it to the second round.

The German national team bid farewell to the World Cup despite its victory over Costa Rica 4-2. The brave Japanese team is on track to create history.

Following the success of the Brave Blossoms in rugby, the football side is beaming with confidence.

On the other hand, German and Belgium fans were in a state of shock to see their teams’ crash out of the World Cup.

Upset of the decade

GERMANY is out of the race for the FIFA World Cup 2022 trophy.

The four-time Soccer World Cup champions failed to qualify for the round of 16 despite thrashing Costa Rica 4-2. Spain, on the other hand, has a better goal difference even after being beaten by Japan 2-1.

Gnabry gave Germany the lead in the 10th minute of the match. They led Costa Rica 1-0 at half time. Tejeda equalised for Costa Rica in the 58th minute and took a 2-1 lead in the 70th minute, courtesy of the own goal by the Germans.

Havertz gave a new lifeline to Germany with his two superb goals in the 73rd and 85th minutes. Fullkrug sealed their victory with his 89th minute goal.

But the disappoint­ing fact is that neither Costa Rica nor Germany qualified from Group E for the knockouts.
