University commended
THE Fiji National University (FNU) must be commended for bringing trainings to local towns and communities outside of major towns and cities so ordinary Fijians have access and equal opportunity to be skilled and market ready.
Poverty Alleviation Minister Rosy Akbar said this while officiating at the certificate presentation for 13 participants of the Meat Industry Skills Training in Navua.
“Skills trainings are absolutely crucial for the success of any industry. It is the workers who make or break an industry and with people who are skilled, I’m sure no industry can go wrong,” she said.
“By attending and obtaining certificates in relevant fields, individuals also lay the foundation towards a more economically secure future for themselves, for their children and families and for their communities.” Ms Akbar added the participants were on the right path to enjoy a sustainable livelihood and had a great opportunity to influence and contribute to Fiji’s economy.
“I also hope that more Fijians around the country who learn of these trainings will be motivated to optimise on the opportunities that FNU is making available for them right where they are.
“As we progress on our road to economic recovery post-pandemic, we need all hands on deck – every Fijian is resourceful and has the potential to actively participate in the economy regardless of gender, race, ethnicity – all Fijians alike can and should contribute to the economy.
“I encourage the graduates to seek employment abroad through the National Employment Centre, they should be confident with what they have learnt and absorbed during their week-long training by the FNU trainers.”
